Geothermal pools
The healing properties contained in Rotorua’s geothermal water is what makes the city world-famous.
The water for our geothermal pools – known as the Rachel Pools – is sourced from the natural thermal waters of whangapiro, known as the Rachel Spring. Whangapiro is a historic alkaline hot spring located within Rotorua’s Government Gardens and contains natural antiseptic and healing properties.
Water from the local spring takes 100 years from fresh rainfall to percolate through the geothermal substrata, which is rich in minerals including alkaline and sulphurous, renowned for their softening effects on the skin and relaxing properties.
Some of the benefits from our pools may include:
- Increased circulation and flexibility
- Reduced aches and pains
- Reduced stress
- Improved skin conditions such as eczema.
Our Rachel Pools are open 8am – 7:30pm Mon-Fri and 9am-5:30pm Saturday, closed Sunday.
You must be out of the pool 15 minutes before closing time.
We have two pools – one is hot, at a temperature of 39°C, while our tepid pool is kept at 37°C. The Rachel pools are 1.1m deep and have a seat around the inside of the pool.
- Children under 8 years old are not permitted in the pools.
- Children aged 8 to 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
A Rachel Pool monthly pass is available to locals for $45.
To purchase a pass, please visit our reception. You must provide proof of address/residence.
