Personalised health and wellness for a life without limits

Rheumatology therapies

Rather than focusing on curing chronic conditions, our rheumatology therapies are designed to help people live well, in their own way.

Rheumatology is an area of medicine that deals with musculoskeletal disorders, or problems with bones, muscles and joints.  Rheumatologists diagnose and treat arthritis and other immune system diseases and conditions.  They may also be involved with sports medicine and chronic pain.

At QE Health the Rheumatology team is mainly involved in the management of immune system disorders, and the screening for osteoporosis (bone fragility).  We are also part of a multidisciplinary team managing chronic pain and disability.

Clients can be referred for specialist rheumatology consultation clinics and services or you can be seen by self-referral.

Find out more about our funding and referral options here.

If you’d like to be seen by self-referral, you can request a consultation here.

Bone density scans

Looking after your bone health becomes increasingly important as you age and is essential to help you live a full life.

Our bone density (DEXA) scan provides useful information about the health of your bones and your risk for osteoporosis and fractures.

It’s a low-dose x-ray test that measures the strength of your bones and is usually performed at the lumbar spine, hip, and wrist level – the three main areas of fragility fractures.

You may be eligible for a funded scan if you have had a non-traumatic fracture in the past two years.  See your GP or specialist for a referral.

Bone mineral density scans are also available privately.

Fracture Liaison Service

Being able to regain your strength and independence after suffering a fragility fracture is crucial to living a full life.

Our Fracture Liaison Service has been specifically designed to help you maximise your health and wellness and build your confidence to manage your health, stay active, and lead a fulfilling life.

Included with your bone density scan is an assessment by our fracture liaison nurse, who will assess, advise and educate you about treatment options and who has the ability to refer to suitable community services.

Anyone who is aged 50 years or over and who has suffered a fragility fracture is eligible for this service.

Ask your GP or specialist to refer you to our service if you are over the age of 50 years and have suffered a fragility fracture in the last two years.
