Multi-disciplinary team

The extensive clinical knowledge base of our multi-disciplinary team enables us to offer a variety of pathways and accommodate your diverse needs.

All of our programmes and individual services can be accessed on a self-referral/fee-based basis, and some are funded through our contracts with several of the former District Health Boards (DHBs), ACC, and Rotorua Area Primary Health Services (RAPHS).

Rheumatology

You can be referred for specialist rheumatology consultation clinics and services if you live in the former Lakes DHB area.

If you live outside this area, you can be referred, however you must be approved for funding by your DHB. Ask your GP to refer you to our service.

We also take private referrals.

Physiotherapy

Our physiotherapists are accredited ACC providers and see clients by referral from a GP, ACC or by self-referral.

Under our current rheumatology service contract with the former Lakes DHB, we can provide physiotherapy for all rheumatological conditions by referral from a GP or specialist.

Fracture Liaison Service

Our Fracture Liaison Service is available to eligible clients through former Lakes DHB funding when referred by their GP.

The fracture liaison service may include:

  • A bone density scan
  • Assessment by our Fracture Liaison Service nurse
  • Being referred to the appropriate community service.

Anyone who is aged 50 years or over and who has suffered a fragility fracture is eligible for this service.

Orthotics

We provide comprehensive orthotic cover for eligible people living within the Rotorua and former Lakes DHB region (including Taupo). We also have a contract with with ACC, and can see clients by self-referral.

There are a number of eligibility criteria, please contact us for further information.

Occupational therapy

Our occupational therapists can see clients by referral from a GP, ACC or by self-referral. Please contact us for further information.

Psychology

We take referrals from GPs and directly from the public via phone or email.

We hold contracts for:

  • ACC Psychological Services for Physical Injury
  • ACC Neuropsychology
  • ACC Community Pain Service
  • ACC Integrated Service for Sensitive Claims (ISSC)
  • RAPHS patients with long term health and mental health conditions (via GP referral)
  • Neuropsychology assessment for former Lakes DHB (via physician referral)
  • Workplace health
  • Acute trauma intervention with emergency services personnel.

Strength and balance classes

These classes are part of the ACC’s Live Stronger for Longer programme.

Rehabilitation

Community pain management programme

ACC funding is available for people whose pain is identified as being a barrier to achieving independence in their everyday life or return to vocation.

The programme consists of a developing a personalised pain management programme consisting of a flexible multi-disciplinary team approach. This can include:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Dietician
  • Social work
  • Psychology
  • Medical specialists
  • Clinical pharmacology.

ACC clients with a complex clinical picture, who are not progressing as expected due to pain barriers, are eligible for this programme.

Referrals can be made directly to QE Health by:

  • Doctor (general practitioner or lead medical practitioner)
  • Primary healthcare professional
  • Any health care professional that ACC funds
  • ACC case managers from Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Lakes District.

ReCharge Programme

Funding for our ReCharge programme is available through the former Lakes DHB and Waikato DHB.

We also accept clients from other former DHB areas, but only if funding is approved prior to referral.

You can also participate in these programmes by self-referral.

People that have one or more of the following conditions are eligible:

  • Chronic pain
  • Rheumatological condition
  • Polio
  • Fibromyalgia.
