We really appreciate our clients and the stories they share with us. A big thank you to Elaine Te’o for sharing her journey with us. Elaine first came to QE Health more than 30 years ago and describes it as her home away from home.
Meet Elaine Te’O
Tell us about your experience with QE Health.
I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 14. My first memory of visiting QE Health is over 30 years ago at the age of 20. I travelled from Wellington and when I first arrived, I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleased to find the staff looked at my health as a whole. They had a warmth about them and they came together to provide a range of treatments including massage, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy pools, occupational therapy, education and more – the staff were caring and full of empathy, providing unique treatments with a holistic approach.
Explain how QE Health helped you.
After having two knee replacements, the team at QE empowered me to manage my pain at home. It wasn’t just the incredible treatments at QE that were helpful, it was also the education and skills the staff gave me to carry on with life back home, from learning key exercises to learning about my different medications.
I have fond memories of staying on site and making friends over dinner as we looked out across the lake to Mokoia Island. Friendships were made, and a special kind of healing took place.
I’m due to have another replacement in the new year, and I will spend time recovering from at QE Health. I’ve always known it’s a place I can return to, my home away from home.
